GERALDINE ROAD
The full refurbishment and extension of this existing London townhouse off Wandsworth Common to form a new family home. The connection of the living spaces on both ground and lower ground floors opened up the space, which then leads out into the garden. The innovative use of cranked steel frames opened up the existing roof void and provided additional living space, all tucked away within the existing roof profile. The design of the superstructure from the lower ground floor to the 2nd floor had to be sympathetic to the architecture, support the various floor levels throughout the building and, at the same time, maximize ceiling heights and internal space. The excavation of the garden at the lower ground floor level while retaining the gardens and roadway provided additional living space. Using typical basement excavation design and construction techniques this was implemented with limited temporary works, which kept the build costs down.
